TIPS FOR MASTERING THE SUPERMARKET GAME

TIPS FOR MASTERING THE SUPERMARKET GAME

Game time! You're headed to the local supermarket. Like me, you might need to visit different vendors for your organic and grass-fed goodies, but a trip to the big supermarket is inevitable for the remaining items.

Pre-Match - Things to Consider:

  1. Know Your Crowd: How many people are you shopping for this week? This affects portion sizes and the overall amount of food you need.

  2. Exercise Plan: What's your planned activity level this week? This influences your "smart carb" intake. More exercise, more smart carbs!

  3. Work Environment: Are you moving around or desk-bound at work? This affects your smart carb and calorie intake.

  4. Social Plans: Any dining out or entertaining? Enjoy those meals but keep other meals in check.

  5. No Hunger Allowed: Don't shop hungry! Have a healthy snack before entering the aisles to avoid poor food choices driven by hunger hormones.

The Match

  • List It Up: Always make a list. Plan, invest yourself in it and stick to it. No extras or specials, just you and your list.

  • Stick to the Perimeter: Focus on the outer aisles where fresh produce resides.

  • Quick Inner Aisle Visits: If you must go down an inner aisle, get in, get what you need, and exit at the same end—no need to wander.

  • Avoid Temptation: Stay away from aisles with your weaknesses, like the junk-food section.

  • Trolley Control: Only fill your trolley if you have a big family or are stocking up.

  • Swift Shopping: Complete your entire shop in 25 mins or less. No lingering around.

Post Game

  • Hide the Snacks: Keep any snacks in the boot (trunk) and resist the temptation to munch on nutritious snacks on the way home.

  • Kid Defense: If you have hungry kids, move quickly to get the food into the fridge and cupboards. They can be like ravenous seagulls!

Mastering the supermarket game is all about planning, discipline, and being strategic. With a well-thought-out list and a focused approach, you'll conquer the shopping trip like a pro!
